Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

What a fantastic first term we have had at the Pauline Walker Dance & Stage School!

A group of our pupils were chosen to perform in the Grand Opera House Youth Production Bugsy Malone in August 2011. Over 250 children took part in the performance, which ran for five nights in July 2011. 

18 of our pupils were selected to perform in Jesus Christ Superstar with the Ulster Operatic Company. The show ran in the Grand Opera House Belfast, from 1st - 5th November 2011. The children had a fantastic time in rehearsals and on stage, exceling in professionalism and enthusiasm, as always. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the children involved, as well as the parents and our chaperones Kerry, Emma and Claire - great job! 

Throughout term one, our little stars have appeared on many other stages and venues across Northern Ireland. Congratulations to our students who have recently finished performing in The Music Box with Peter Corry and the Ulster Operatic Company - the girls enjoyed performing ballet in the run which took place throughout December at the Theatre at the Mill, Newtownabbey. Students have recently performed in other productions such The King & I (Theatre at the Mill), Aladdin with MT4UTH and in South Pacific at Campbell College, Belfast. Congratulations also to those who have been selected to perform in the forthcoming productions at the Grand Opera House Belfast - The King & I and Annie. 

Preparation for BTDA (modern jazz & tap) and RAD Ballet examinations are well underway. Examination sessions are due to be held in March 2012. Our Dynamite Fusion classes have also been working towards the Northern Ireland Creative Movement and Aerobics Championships, which will take place in Lisburn Leisureplex on March 11th 2012. We have a record number of entries this year, due to the popularity of our Dynamite Fusion classes and we are really looking forward to a fantastic day. 

During December, we had a number of open days in our Junior School classes and parents were invited to view their child's class. We also finished the year with our annual Christmas Party on Saturday 17th December - a fantastic day was had by all. 

Please note that there will be no classes from Thursday 22nd December to Wednesday 4th January 2012 inclusive. However, due to competition rehearsals, please check witch your class teacher for any changes.

We are looking forward to another very successful dance filled year in 2012. May we take this opportunity to thank you for all your support and also to wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year from all of the staff at Pauline Walker Dance - Pauline, Jean, Lynda, Brooke, Kazia and Nikki xx

DVDs Available Until End of October: Annual Show 2011

DVDs of our 25th Annual Show are available from the studio until the end of October 2011. Each pack includes all the performances from the evening show, plus Tiny Tot performances from the afternoon show.

The Grand Opera House

Ulster Operatic Company’s - Jesus Christ Superstar

Tuesday 1st – Saturday 5th November

Grand Opera House, Belfast

Auditions will be held this Saturday in PWD studio from 11am – 1pm, for dancers/singers who will be aged 7 – 13 during the run of the show. Those auditioning must be prepared to sing and dance. PWD & staff will teach a dance routine and a song to those auditioning – they will then be expected to perform the dance and song in small groups.

Those auditioning must be available for all rehearsals – please note that additional rehearsals may be added. All rehearsals will be held in Mary Magdalene Church, Donegall Pass, Belfast.

Please bring a full body shot photograph to the audition, as well as the following measurements – Height, Bust, Waist, Hips, Neck to Waist, Neck to Ground (no shoes), Waist to Ground, Waist to below Knee cap, Underarm to Wrist, Around Head.

Wear jazz shoes/ballet pumps and comfortable dance wear.

Please note that there will be a second audition for those who are currently on holiday (details TBC).
